Corporation of National & Community
Service
Initiative
June 22 - Sept 11, 2009
This is an extraordinary moment in time.
As Americans, we have a unique
opportunity to come together and solve
our nation's most vexing problems. In
this spirit, President Obama is
announcing a nationwide service
initiative, please visit
www.serve.gov
for more details.
Tipping
Neighborhoods to Success
The Washington office of UNCA
and the Alliance has released a
new report on the Obama
administration's proposed
Promise Neighborhoods
initiative. Modeled after the
Harlem Children's Zone, the
proposal would provide funding
for comprehensive school and
community-based programs in 20
neighborhoods across the
nation (initially, perhaps more
later on) to help children reach
college and to transform the
communities they live in.
We are creating a new email
list to share information
with interested organizations
about this federal initiative .
This invitation is not limited
to UNCA or Alliance members
(although some
information will only be shared
with them, membership has its
privileges after all). The new
list will be used to distribute
both legislative news and also
news about how to apply for, or
connect to, any related grants
(probably a little later down
the line). To be added to this
new Neighborhood Initiatives
Email List, please contact me or
reply to this email.
Our new report can be found
